    1. The "semiologic" plugin does not show up on my Plugins Management page, even though it is in the folder. Re-uploaded, it shows in Filezilla but not on the Plugins Manage page. Is there something wrong?

    2. Translator is giving the following error:

Warning: curl_setopt() [function.curl-setopt]: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or an open_basedir is set in /home/bldwlth/public_html/wp-content/plugins/translator.php on line 26

I ran cURL test as recommended, <?php phpinfo(); ?>, and cURL is enabled, etc.

Changed "translator.php" to 666 and 777, still did not work. What's wrong?

    Are these issues related?

    Thanks much

The Semiologic plugin is no longer used in SL 4.x.

As for the translator issue, which version of SL do you have loaded?

It sounds like you also have php safe_mode enabled as well. If you have access to your php.ini you may consider turning that off. It does cause all sorts of issues when enabled.

PHP is running in normal mode, safe_mode is disabled.

What are the correct file permissions for translator.php?

If you set wp-content/plugins to 777, you should be fine with translator.php being 644.

Here are the permisisons settings needed by Semiologic:

The following folders should be writable by the server (chmod 777):

    uploads
    uploads/File
    uploads/Flash
    uploads/Image
    uploads/Media
    wp-content
    wp-content/cache
    wp-content/gravatars
    wp-content/plugins

The following files should also be writable (chmod 666):

    .htaccess
    sitemap.xml
    sitemap.xml.gz
    wp-config.php
    wp-content/wp-cache-config.php

@ezines: based on your error, safe mode is on, or the curl library is improperly installed. there are no translations to set for the translator plugin.

First of all Translator Plugin is my product. Any discussions on it should be on my blog http://blog.taragana.com where I can support it.

    > I have Translator version that came in the latest SL,version 1.1 (fork).
I haven't released Translator under GPL or any Open Source License. It appears that Semiologic is being illegally bundled with my translator plugin without my permission.

This is illegal and unethical. Please cease and desist packaging Translator plugin with your product. You are illegally shipping an old and unsupported version of the copyrighted product. Please inform all your customers (to whom you illegally shipped Translator plugin) to consider purchasing it from:

    angsuman,

I really don't know this issue here but I can tell you that its a pretty cheap shot to deal with it on this forum instead of dealing directly with Denis on this. I might suggest that you do just that to clear this up since the way you deal with it here doesn't make me want to run out and work with you on any issue, if this is how you handle your business.

I find that Denis is someone that deals straight up and honest on issues and I hope that you find the same thing and get this cleared up some place else other than this support forum.

What is cheap shot? Bundling someone's copyrighted product in a paid product without permission or complaining about it?
It is clearly a copyright violation and I would rather deal with it openly than behind closed doors.

Its none of my business what is going on here, but I am sure surprised about the way it is being handled. You suggest we should go buy the full product from you? Personally, I would have to think twice about doing so and probably would not considering the manner in which you have displayed yourself in this forum.

    @Angsuman:

As you may recall from the discussion in the wp-hackers list when I initially released the Semiologic Pro Package, I checked for license issues when bundling 3rd party components.

Regarding your plugin in particular, and I cannot remember reading anything on your site that was a show stopper. When I tried to contact you to make sure there were no issues, your site had no phone or email address, and your comment form was not working due to a buggy spam protection scheme on your site. When I sent a message via the (at the time) form on taragana.com, noone bothered answering me.

Regarding the question raised in my forum about Google potentially banning sites using their transation web service to serve more pages, it was not my question but a prospect's. In the event f there was any issue at all, I figured raising it in public would make more sense than secrecy. Your initial input (i.e. translator Pro has no issue, a link to buy it) was constructive and welcome.

Your plugin, which directs users to your site, will be removed per your request, since you're making a big issue of a misunderstanding that unnoteworthy at best. It will be replaced by a plugin that is free, and GPL-licensed.

Last but not least, your flaming me in public was unprofessional at best. It would have been sweet of yours to contact me and wait for an answer before posting junk like this on your web site. As an aside, notice that I'm answering in my forum and on your site, rather than flaming you on the front page of a blog. I'll be looking forward to reading a follow-up or an edit to your post in the lights of the above.
