    I've just uploaded Semiologic 5 beta 3.

Key changes since the last beta:

    • fixed an upgrader issue related to apache running as nobody:nobody
    • autoinstaller bug fix (the infamous filed under [nothing] problem; to fix if you've had it: change the widget's caption)
    • db-backup, simple tags, and fck updates
    • 10 new skins courtesy of Beth Lyons

Sem Pro 5 beta files are at:

    http://wp-pro.semiologic.com/bleeding/

Standalone Sem theme 5 files are at:

    http://www.semiologic.com/res/semiologic-bleeding.zip

I'd like to make sure everyone can properly use the upgrade script this time. Even if you succeed in upgrading your site from beta 1 or beta 2 to beta 3, please give beta 3's upgrade wizard a shot (I've tweaked the upgrade files) on your server.

For the handful of you who were having issues with automated updates:

    1. Please follow the manual instructions
    2. Once you're done, please be so kind to give the automated update a shot to see if I've nailed down the issue
    3. If not, please send your site url and ftp details to denis at mesoconcepts dot com, titled "Sem 5 automated upgrade problem", so I can look into it asap

I could have slated this one as an RC, but I figured I'd wait for a last batch of upgrade tests before giving that label a go for it.

Going to DL beta 3 but I just wanted to say THANKS for all the cool features in SemPro 5 Beta 2. Just installed it yesterday and finding out all about the cool new features. There is a lot of new stuff in there! Now I see why you went right to Version 5 instead of just 4.4 It was well worth the wait...

Can't wait until the Nov 16th webinar to learn about all the new stuff!

I use the ugprade wizard in beta 2 to upgrade to beta 3. It has shown a blank page for over 2 hours. Nothing comes up when I try to reload.

I can bring up the site in another tab, at least the front page. When I go to Presentation>Skins, the new skins are listed but there are no visual representations of them.

Is this an incomplete upgrade? What's the next step?

    Todd

P.S. ftp details sent to support

OK, Going to ask the dumb question. What Wizard? The only wiazrd I've seen is to import a website from point a to b. Is it not as simple as re-uploading the files and over-writing everything?

    Hello Denis,

Get work on this beta. Its really impressive the amount of work you put into it. All the new features are just fantastic.

Installed 5.0.3 on a new domain on my host gator acct and really had no problems on setup.

When writing a page there are two box's for tags, so i put tags in both and what was entered in the second box is what was placed on the page. Screenshot for this is page tags.

After I set it up and made some posts and pages I then ran the upgrader at first it seemed to go fine, but when i navigated to a different page the error messages started to appear and the site whited out.
This is the message when on the home page
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp() in /public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 18
    And this when at /wp-admin/
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_option() in /public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 7

All the new themes by Beth are fantastic I was completely in awe when I saw them. On some of Beth's themes there seems to be a spacing issue. The first post is down a little to far (screenshot for this is first post). And there is a noticeable white space between posts (screenshot for this is labeled, below post). This is only happening with a few of her themes.

Greg, I experienced the very same thing at the same point while using the 1-click install.

Paul, I noticed the same things about the tags.

This is an amazing upgrade to be sure.

    Hi Support,

I've tried a manual upload of the new version 5 on two different hosts. On both, after the update, I end up with a blank white screen. No error message. No code... nothing.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    Any suggestions?

If it's not... is that something that the hosts can change easily ? Or would I need to upgrade my hosting package to get this... and if it's not a simple change on their part... is it possible to upload the most recent version 4.28 over the ver. 5 files I just uploaded? Would that work?

You just have you host change in in the php.ini file and restart apache.

I would stay with 5.0. Ideally all SL releases need the 32M or greater.

When I'm adding in html code in the source code, when I revert back to un-source code mode, everything deletes.

When you put in info into the source code and then publish the page, it just deletes whatever was inputted and saved.

    Weird.

    ---

problem above happens on PCs and Macs.

    &&&&&

When using IFRAME in pages, the width is able to be manipulated but the height stays the same, which is like 150-200 pixels long. The border is always there even if you distinguish ="0"

To all who have experienced one-click upgrade issues with beta 3, please don't forget to send me your site details and ftp details by email (denis at mesoconcepts dot com). I'd like to get all of this resolved by this evening so we can release the RC.

also, it would be sweet if a few of you sent site details for sites where the upgrade worked, so I can make sure I don't break things that were previously working while fixing things that didn't. :-)

I used the upgrader on a demo at bluehost. There were no errors. The only problem I seemed to notice is that it didnt import the picture of the skins beth made.

I dont think bluehost likes the upgrader too much. I had a suspended acct message for a few minutes after the upgrade. Basically it said i used too many server resources in a 60 sec window.

I can't get it to work correctly. I first tried upgrading and though I could access some some areas of the admin portion my browser would say lost network connection when I tried to access the main site page and some admin areas such as permalinks. I then tried to install into a new database and got the same problems. It should be noted I am using this on a testing domain which is on my server, but I have not yet listed it with DNS servers for public access.

    Hi Mike and/or Denis,

I checked with my host (hostgator although I had the same problem on wiredhub so I don't think the issue is the host) and my php memory is already set to 40M. So, apparently that's not the problem.

One additional note; I had no problem with a new install of SP ver 5. The problem for both of these sites where I now have blank white screen is that they were SP upgrades. One of the support techs mentioned to me that it appeared to him that the Word Press wp-login.php file was now not loading correctly. Of course, all of the files are still on the server.

What would you all suggest now?

    Thanks in advance...

    Hello,
I just uploaded ver. 5 on a domain that has been in use for the last year. I am getting this error when I try to access the site: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/bidetnew/public_html/wp-content/plugins/ylsy_permalink_redirect.php on line 182
Any help is appreciated, Thanks Not to worry I have since fixed the problem. I re-installed the bleeding edge version and all is good!

Denis do you still need sites that worked? The only issue I had was on the new skins the "picture" not showing. Manual upload corrected it easy.

For previous version upgrades, I have upgraded with no problems. On a new site with a home page and a couple of pages of content, I did a backup, downloaded the .gz file to my notebook, and then started to upgrade to bleeding edge version 5.0.3 by FTPing the beta files to the site. Using FireFTP.

Upon viewing the site, the homepage gave error messages. In response, I uploaded the files again, suspecting an FTP problem. The error messages are gone, but the content is also gone.

Checked the file permissions (777 etc.) in accordance with the how to upgrade Semiologic Pro page, the permissions were correct.
I ran the Wizards / Upgrade 1.0 beta and it said the upgrade was successful.
However, the home page content and the two other pages of content are still missing.

Before I try as a first-time amateur to restore as explained in http://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup,
I thought it would be a good idea to check with the forum.
The site with missing content is HowToChooseAnAttorney.com

    Thanks, - E. J.

    @All:

An updated version of the upgrade scripts is located at the following address:

    http://www.semiologic.com/files/members/sem-pro/download/sem-pro.zip

(This is not the full sem pro zip, merely the upgrade scripts for testing purposes.)

Can those of you whose sites I haven't worked on since late last week could give it a shot while I tackle the three last sites on my todo list?

To test, upload the files to your site (wp-content overwrites wp-content), then visit wizards / upgrade and let me know if the upgrader works to the last step with no errors.
