I've uploaded Semiologic 5 RC earlier today, you can grab it at:

    http://wp-pro.semiologic.com/bleeding

The last couple of issues that were discussed in the beta 3 thread are all fixed.

As with the previous Sem 5 pre-releases, please give the upgrader a shot. I've tested it on over 20 servers, and I'm hoping it should work fine on all platforms now.

To spare yourself a long upload, you can upload the upgrader files only via:

    • wp-content/plugins/semiologic/inc
    • wp-content/themes/semiologic/inc
    • wp-content/themes/semiologic/wizards

and then try wizard / upgrade directly.

if the upgrader doesn't work -> email denis at mesoconcepts dot com, topic "Sem 5 automated upgrade problem" and I'll look into it tomorrow.

    D.

PS: don't forget to disable non-Semiologic Pro plugins before upgrading -- at least two users got blank screens because of this.

I again tried a fresh install with this RC on a blog and still get the repeated network connection lost messages when trying to access the admin pages. Some of them will sometimes load and others I always get this message. The server is a Mac OSX and I have been running all my prior versions of semiologic without problems. As I mentioned previously this particular blog is not yet listed in public DNS servers because I am running it in testing mode first. I do have it listed in my network dns server and access it like I would any site. Suggestions greatly appreciated!

it's likely a dns issue if your domain was recently set up. I've seen dns propagate in as much as a week when I was working at a telco firm.

I dont' think that is it. I am using my dns server on my intranet to point at the site. Whenever I switch back to the old version of semiologic (just change the folder the domain points to) everything works correctly. The only way I can see it is a dns issue is if now there must be some external access to my installation from the public internet for some reason.

I uploaded semiologic 5 RC. I did it because I have a static page as my home page and I wanted to add feeder or content from my blog post inside the home page content. I was told by Dennis to upgrade to this version to be able to do it. But how do I do that? can someone please tell me where is the url to where I can find how to add content to any part of my static page?

    Thanks!

This is more a question from B3 relevant to RC upgrade...

Yesterday i updated few of my sites to SemPro 5beta3 ...
Today after seing the RC announcement, I wanted to run upgrade on them, but when i clicked on Admin/Wizards/Upgrade ... i got this screen:

    ----
    Upgrade 1.0 beta
Backup and Download → Upgrade → Done
This wizard will let you automatically upgrade Semiologic Pro.

Your site is already running the latest bleeding edge version of Semiologic Pro.
    ----

    I recheck, and Admin/Presentation/Theme says 5.0beta3 ...
I go back to upgrade wizard, and press Start button... i get this:

    ---

    Performing clean-up

    Invalid ftp details

    Upgrade 1.0 beta
Backup and Download → Upgrade → Done
This wizard will let you automatically upgrade Semiologic Pro.

Your site is already running the latest bleeding edge version of Semiologic Pro.
    ---

Then i manually upgraded one of the sites, and everything is OK, theme shows it is 5.0 RC, and upgrade wizard also works properly - showing:

    ---
    Download → Backup → Prepare → Upgrade → Clean Up → Done
This wizard will let you automatically upgrade Semiologic Pro.

Select your preferred version of Semiologic Pro and enter your site's ftp details to proceed:

    Stable version: 5.0 RC
    Bleeding edge version: 5.0 RC
This version is not recommended for production sites

    ... ftp details form...

    ---

So... why are B3 installs showing no upgrades - where did they get wrong ftp data from? And why are they showing no form to enter ftp details... ?

    cheers,
    W

When I try to upgrade a site that is new and started at version 5b3, I get the very same as "W" above. I am not even presented with a RC to upgrade to in the Wizard.

When I try to upgrade a site that is at 5b3 that Denis has been working on and as installed the improved upgrader, I am presented with the RC as an option.

Using Firefox to perform the upgrade, at the upgrade step, Firefox tries to open the admin.php file and asks me how I want to do that. canceling at this point seems to halt the process. Presentation > Theme tells me I am still at 5b3.

Using IE to perform the upgrade seems to fair better at the upgrade step at first, but eventually IE tells me the page cannot be displayed. Presentation > Theme still tells me I am st 5b3.

Update: I tried again to upgrade using IE the site Denis had worked on and it hung there for a long time. I stopped the process. Now none of my sites are displaying, but I can send and receive mail. I have asked PVPS to reset my server.

I guess the process eventually stopped and all is back to normal. I am still at 5b3 on all sites. The only way to upgrade would be to manually download then upload, I am getting too many sites to keep up with that. I will wait for a fix or for Denis to point out what I did wrong. :)

My wife just discovered that not-yet-approved comments on a post show up immediately in a Fuzzy Recent Posts widget in the sidebar. When clicking in the widget, it goes to the comments page but the comment is not displayed.

One would think this behavior is not as intended. :)

FIXED: I finally realized that I had to change the permissions of the CONTENTS of the folders, too.
    -----------------------

    Can't get RC to install.

I did a one click install on a new domain at Dreamhost. WP is up and running.

I downloaded the RC zip, uploaded (several times), changed permissions. All of the files appear to be there (server), but the only SP specific files that show are the plugins. No autoinstaller or upgrader.

I've logged out and in, and tried to run install.php, but get a message that WP is already installed (and it is running).

I followed the instructions at http://www.semiologic.com/resources/wp-basics/how-to-install-sem-pro/ but no dice.

    Any ideas?

Ok I have a question I wanted to use the latest 5.0 RC I am on 5.0 Beta 3 here is what happened when I went to the auto-upgrader.

    Upgrade 1.0 beta
Backup and Download → Upgrade → Done

This wizard will let you automatically upgrade Semiologic Pro.

Your site is already running the latest bleeding edge version of Semiologic Pro.

Maybe this is correct however in the Presentation it still says 5.0 Beta 3

Steve, see above, a couple other have reported this, I think it is a faulty upgrader in 5b3. Denis has instructions on how to just stick the new upgrader in your site to then do the auto install. But I am not sure that is working either as my site has the improved upgrader and I had the trouble above.

I attempted to upgrade one of my sempro blogs to the new 5RC version by following the instructions at:
    http://www.semiologic.com/resources/wp-basics/how-to-upgrade-sem-pro/

But... After the upgrade was complete, all my posts and pages completely disappeared!

NOTE-1: An FTP "Critical Transfer Error" occurred during the upgrade on the 'setup-config.php' file
    * My original 'setup-config.php' file was 5610 kb and the new 5RC file is 5952 kb
    * I renamed the original 'setup-config.php' to 'setup-config-old.php' and was able to upload the new file
    * But this did not fix my problem.

NOTE-2: The other issue I noticed was that my original '.htaccess' file was called '.htacess-sample' instead of just '.htacess'
    * I tried renaming this to just 'htacess' but this did not solve my problem either.

What did I do wrong? Please help me to get my pages and posts back?

    Thankyou,
    Doug.

After rereading Denis's post, I overwrote just directories he specifies :
    * wp-content/plugins/semiologic/inc
    * wp-content/themes/semiologic/inc
    * wp-content/themes/semiologic/wizards

and after that, upgrade from B3 to RC went with no problems.

Question - in which file is the semiologic pro API key written?
I am not in mood to manually login to all 10 new blogs/admin to add it...

    W,

I was not looking forward to doing that either and then I came up with a easy way. YOu still have to log in, but I found it easier and is available to for each new blog I set up. I use roboform to store all my passwords and so I created a "passcard" in roboform called "Semiologic API" and now I nav to the screen that requires the code and quickly choose to fill the box with that passcard from the roboform toolbar.

Like I said, you still have to log in, but the API is always there, I do not have to log into the members area each time I need to get it when I start a new blog.

    WP-CACHE issue w/ RC

When the plug-in is activated and I go to edit/move text widgets, they
save but do not display the changes (they show the cached version/location).
Tried it with FF and IE, cleared my browser cache, re-saved the them and
    layout.

When I disable the plugin, all is fine.

Hypothetically Speaking ;-) If someone got distacted and thought they had deactivated all the plugins but it fact hadn't and they then get a completely blank screen on the site and on the plugins screen... How would that person (hypothethically!) Get the blog back so that it was visable again??

*EDIT* It looks like a hypothetical re-upload would fix it.

I have a number of blogs using RC5 without problems but 1 of them has a ver strange problem.

I have articles posted there for me to review as drafts before publishing.

If I view them they are formatted fine with paragraphs.
As soon as I load them into the WYSIWYG tool to edit them all formatting is stripped out and it is just 1 block of text with no paragraphs.
Also they don't appear in the manage section along the top as Draft Posts.

    Any Idea??

    Mark,

Are you using Civ's Drip Feeder by any chance to upload those articles?

I ask because I've experienced your exact problem as described. Using the last stable Sem Pro release PRIOR to v 5 - This formatting issue ONLY occurs when I upload articles with Drip Feeder. Changing to the wysywyg editor pushes the article content together into a clump, but only on article uploaded with Drip Feeder. I can use wp import, rss 2 blog, insert by hand, whatever - and the problem doesn't exist. But let Drip Feeder upload the articles, if I should switch to the wysywyg editor the article become one clumped paragraph.

I've not tried Drip Feeder with v 5... I've installed v5, but my api is apparently expired ;-(

    Hi deb,
No it's not drip feeder, it's the UAW plugin that sends unique articles to the site.

I've found a work around, copy the article from the view page then paste it in.

    Hi,
Does anybody know what happened to the Captions option in 5RC ??
I use that always as some blogs are in Spanish and in the English ones I like to put something different.

Apart from that an new install went fine. Everything that I have used seems to be working fine.

Is it possible to extract the Captions option from 4 and lay it into 5 ?
I hope that that is not necessary...

    @ George Kedourie;

With regards to your problem where the upper URL bar contains &#3230. I think it may be attributed to you putting in something like an apostrophe, or some other punctuation mark in your "Title" of the post.
I found the same situation, removed the punctuation mark, and all is fine.

So what happens is: if you call your post something like: " I have all the best post's ", the apostrophe in "post's" gets translated into HTML...I think? So depending of where in the title that punctuation mark is, it will fill it with HTML code. It will appear as: " I have all the best post&#3230s ". Code may be diff, but you get the idea.

Check your post title and see what u can see.

    Regards

    Howard

@Eric : still occurring, or not?

    @Mike:

With the upgrader, it preserves my FTP name and password between upgrades but not the host name? by design or indeed it should?

    this is browser related

@weirdgod: I fixed a couple of issues in the beta 3 upgrader

@Jeff: I'll take a look during the week

@Todd : fixed in the next RC, thanks for reporting the bug

@David : is the theme present? you mean it didn't automatically activate after uploading the files?

@kmator: err... have your host turn allow_url_fopen on or remove the open_basedir limitation?

@Doug: we fixed this by email, right, or was that another Doug?

@David : that would be normal WP-Cache behavior -> flush it under Options / WP-Cache

@Exmachina: in all likelyhood, whoever wrote them isn't using the wysiwyg editor

@Steve : this is related to Now Reading, and it's fixed in the upcoming RC2. in the meanwhile, rename the plugin's folder to something else, browse the Plugins page in the admin area to disable it automatically, and rename it back

@George : the captions screen is gone forever, and replaced with widget options screens. the special chars in the title bars is fixed in RC2

I hope I didn't miss to many threads in there. I'll be uploading an RC2 in a sec...
