I'm using the static home page plugin and I have a front page (sales letter template) and other pages, but no blog. When I try to save a BLANK page with a slug of "blog" nothing happens. When I save a page with CONTENT and slug of "blog", it saves it as a static home page ON THE BLOG (behind the static front page--a lead capture page).

    So. . . I've got no blog.

This has been going on for a week (I've posted about it before). Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

I setup all of my blogs this way... with a static homepage and blog behind the static page and it seems to work for me. I can try to recreate your issue but you would have to give specific detailed steps of what you are doing so I can try to recreate the problem on my test blog. Start from the very beginning and take me through the process. Stuff like version, plugins used, steps taken, etc...

I didn't see your message earlier... but many people here just say they have a problem or issue and expect everyone else to know what they are talking about... Without specifics steps taken and an accurate problem description... people who want to help... can't.

By listing your issue and specific steps taken to cause the issue... people here can spot an error in the process... or confirm that there is a bug in the program... which ultimately leads to a faster resolution :)

    David,

You do not say if you have any posts, do you?

And also, do you have the opt in front page plugin activated? I don't think you want it activated to get the functionality you are looking for.

@Big I did have all the details posted in a previous message, should have linked to it, sorry. When I didn't hear from anyone, I "solved" the problem by installing a second instance of SP in a sub-directory, and I run the blog from there (and the pages from the higher directory). Not a perfect solution, but it works. I have to co-ordinate widgets (fuzzy posts appear on sub-folder blog, not on pages), do two backups, etc.

@sminc I did have posts. And I had static front page activated and had been using a front page (lead capture) prior to attempting blog post.

So, I don't know if it's a bug, or what, but it's working for now. Thanks, guys.

Using Semiologic Pro 5.5 rc3 to set up a new site. The new site must have a blog in addition to one or two static pages.

I used FTP to install the theme, and put up a static home page. But I cannot figure out how to get 3 test blog posts to show up on the home page, or for the existence of the blog to be apparent on the home page. All the posts are written and published, and can be seen via the "manage" list.

Setting up a home page was possible thanks to the advice from Jame: "under settings> reading you choose the home page(static) and blog page. Both are chosen from pages already created."

However, I do not know how to also have a blog on the same site. Under settings>reading, checking the "blog" button unchecks the home page. I am missing something fundamental. How do you get to have both (1) some static pages, for example a home page, and also (2) a blog, on the website?

    Thanks, - E. J.

I may have found the answer. By going to Design > Widgets and putting the "fuzzy widget" into the sidebar, the home page now shows the posts. So now, from the home page, it is apparent to the visitor that there is also a blog.
