    Hello All,

Well, here I am with yet another problem. ... I am using SemPro 5.0.2 on the particular site in question. I have not upgraded it to 5.5 yet.

I was editing some text on a page of my website @ www.dslyoga.com/about/joel-diana/ and when I pressed *Save and Continue Editing*, ALL of the text disappeared, except the Page Title. The page itself is still there, and all the header and sidebar content, just not the body text. I tried to go to the page the normal people way, and same thing.

During editing, I had tried to make some changes with the text editor, and got a flip down message box saying it was trying to run a script unsuccessfully, and asked if I wanted to continue. I said yes, got the box again, and so I clicked the Stop Script button. I tried to make another formatting change, and that happened one more time, but I immediately clicked the Stop Script button again.

When the page disappeared, I immediately went to Google and found the cached version of the page, copied the text, and pasted it into TextEdit on my Mac computer (Thank You Google!!!), so at least I have the raw text, without the more than an hour of editing I had just done and now have lost.

I get a Backup copy everyday via e-mail from WordPress, but it is a .gz zip kind of file, and I am not sure how to open it up or how to recover from it. I double clicked on it and it responded, but I could not find where it went on my Mac. (A lot of good backups do if you have never learned how to use them!!!) I imagine though that for this instance, my Google cached text is at least as good as what would be in the backup -- unless the backups maintain formatting, which I doubt. Or do they?

So, NOW, I am afraid to make ANY more changes on my site -- and Lord knows it needs a LOT of changes -- for fear of losing everything.

OK. Anyone have any words of wisdom as to how this happened, how I should proceed to prevent further loss of work, and what need to be done to fix the problem overall?

    Thank You Very Much,
    David

Were you previously trying to run any sort of java or php scripts in that page. Kind of sounds like something froze up the editor on you.

I don't know a darn thing about macs, on windows the unzipped file is usually inside the program you were using
ex:winzip/files/unzipped , or something along those lines.

You need to nothing with your.gz backup, except upload it into your database, which will uncompress it and restore it.

@ Paul -- I was just entering and changing regular old text via the WYSIWY-Sometimes-G editor and would not even know how to run a java or php script. I barely know what they are. -- The .gz file (it looks like some kind of zip file, as the icon has a little virtual zipper on it) was an attachment to an e-mail that is sent to my mailbox daily by the WordPress backup system. -- Thanks.

@Darrell -- I am assuming I FTP it to -- where? -- the root domain name in the FTP window? Will it unzip all by itself? -- Will it get arrested for indecency? -- Thanks to you, too.

    David

P.S. I hope you guys don't mind my attempts at humor. Otherwise, this tech stuff would just make me crazy with all the hassles. It would be so nice to just be able to spend One Week focusing on creating Real Content instead of the incessant needs and glitches of the delivery system. I keep thinking I am in way over my head, but too far down the path to turn back. So thanks for all the gracious help you guys provide us low-techies.

P.P.S. Can I use the Buy A Drink link to buy YOU guys drinks, or does it go direct to Semio?

Are you still have issues with the editor?

No bothers, I don't know a lick of code. The only real usefulness I have here at semi is the amount of time I have been using the script along with all my silly experiments has given me a fairly good grasp of it. If you have not upgraded to 5.5 you may want to download zip file and setup a test domain just to familiarize yourself with the new version there are quite a few changes and upgrades.

    Good luck

You go into your MySQL database and upload through there(if you have access, and if you don't, consider changing hosts) It is always wise to have root access to your site in these times...well at all times - it is a smarter way to go.

To see how to do this step, by step, then check out here...
