There has been much discussion here about including FCKeditor within Semiologic again. Whether a new condition or not, FCKeditor is available for use under 3 different licenses as shown on their website as follows:

The editor is distributed under the GPL, LGPL and MPL open source licenses. This triple copyleft licensing model avoids incompatibility with other open source licenses. It is also available under a commercial license or CDL

Commercial License - Closed Distribution License - CDL (Download PDF) - from their website

For many companies and products, Open Source licenses are not an option. This is why the Closed Distribution License (CDL) has been introduced. It is a non-copyleft license which gives companies complete freedom when integrating FCKeditor in their products and web sites.

This license offers a very flexible way to integrate FCKeditor in your commercial application.

These are the main advantages it offers over an Open Source license:

The Open Source Licenses are specially indicated for:

    * Integrating FCKeditor in your Open Source software.
    * Personal and educational use of FCKeditor.
    * Integrating FCKeditor in commercial software, taking care of satisfying the Open Source licenses terms, while not able or interested on supporting FCKeditor.

The third license which I believe would apply to Semiologic would cost Denis $1450.00 to include within the distribution.

HOWEVER, thanks to a tip from one of my clients, I was persuaded to try the plugin from Dean Lee, Dean’s FCKEditor for WordPress plugin(V2.4.1) Read about it here http://www.deanlee.cn/wordpress/fckeditor-for-wordpress-plugin/

This should be usable by individuals under one of the open source licenses. Just upload to the plugin folder. It overrides TinyMCE and seem as good as the previous Semiologic versions, with more features. (includes templates for posts and pages). Spell check doesn't seem to work, but I couldn't find anything else that didn't. I'm sure that those interested can test it more.

    Download it here

Wow, Larry - you do read minds long distance!

I was just using "bad words" with the editor in place now, then surfed over here
and voila - Larry's help tip is here :).

    Thank you...Lu

P.S. It works just like you said.
Sooo glad you posted this tip Larry :).
    Thanks again!

I liked the FCKeditor also and found the tinymce underwhelming when first made the editor of choice for semio. The advanced tinymce plugin solved enough of my concerns I had with it, but could still go either way. The one thing that seals the deal for me placing tiny over fck is with the tinymce version others write plugins that utilize it. In particular, I am closely watching a plugin that integrates Highslide, and Highslide is hands down the best all around image handler there is in my opinion. This plugin only integrates one aspect of Highslide currently, but the developer plans to add more, and someone with php/semio knowledge could probably add even more functions.

If Highslide could be integrated in some other way, I would not care so much about tiny and would use fck (though I need a working spell checker). Ideally, the option to use either in different parts of the same cms would be great, though this might not be possible.
