    Hi Denis,

I found a really great plugin who create navigation sitemap. http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/sitemap-generator-plugin-for-wordpress/

It will be a nice plugin to include into the semiologic package.

Actually, I followed all installation steps but the sitemap page doesn't appear.

I think the problem come from the CSS file or the theme.

Feel free to help me to solve this problem.

    Martin,

I actually have this plugin running on my site (http://www.mikekoepke.com).

I just created a Sitemap page and added <!-- ddsitemapgen --> to it in HTML Edit (Source) mode.

You just then go to Options->DDSitemapGen and configure.

I don't even need to mess with css settings as Sitemap inherited the SL look and feel for the page.

    Hi mike,

I had paste the <!-- ddsitemapgen --> in the html edit source mode, but it automatically had <p><!-- ddsitemapgen --></p> and all the WYSWYG text editor are deactivate.

Actually the www.ekm2.org/sitemap is the xml page generated by Google generator plugin. Do you think it causes a bug between those plugins.

I also tried another slug page name, but the sitemap doesn't appear.

    Thanks for your support,

    Martin

I am also using the Google Sitemap Generator plugin as well.

When you say the sitemap doesn't appear do you mean that the Sitemap Page does not show up or that when you bring up the Sitemap page, it is empty?

I have my page set up to use the Default Template.

Finally I also have a <br /> before <!-- ddsitemapgen -->. I can't remember why I added but you might want to give it a shot.

Thanks for the tips, I put </br> before and it working. (<br /> code didn't work)

I also have to put directly the <!-- ddsitemapgen --> in the text editor, when I used the html source editor the page stay empty.

I have another problem now, the plugin drop down all my right sidebar down. I tried to change the width of the website but it didn't change nothing. It very strange all the sidebar goes in the footer. Hopefully, it's doing this only in the sitemap page. See the page at http://www.ekm2.org/carte/

    Do you have any idea?

    Thanks for your help,

    Martin

    Martin:

Start by making sure you're using v.4.1 or later.

Also, try putting the <!-- ddsitemapgen --> in between <div> and </div>. It sometimes helps.

    Tribute to the kings

Thanks Denis and Mike, together you find the solution.

This is the code you have to paste into the text editor (not in the HTML source editor)
    <div></ br><!-- ddsitemapgen --></div>

That's what a call an extracted tacit knowledge into an explicit knowledge format. I hope this discussion will help other semiologic community member.

    Thanks for all,

    Martin

I just started using this plugin. It doesn't seem to pickup newer posts though. I've tried it on a couple of my blogs and it picks up posts that I made a week ago but not posts I've made in the last 4 or 5 days. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi john,

I verified with my wordpress and the new post appeared into the sitemap.

Take a look at the plugin setting option, there is an exclusion post and page management system.

I hope it will help you.

Actually, he is right. I messed up my last zip upload, and an unstable version of sitemap is in the v.4.2 beta zip. It'll be fixed by this WE.

    Hi everyone,

I was just trying to find the sitemap generator in the semiologic pro package but couldn't find it. Is it actually in there?

Also with the sitemap generator by Mike, does it:

    1. also make a google xml site map as well as a regular visitor sitemap?

    2. can you exclude pages from being included in the map (in a previous generator I used, it kept including my wp login and wp change password pages)

    Thanks!

@ mart911 Thank you for posting this. Finding a proper site map plugin was on my list. The Google site map generates gobbledegoop, great for machines, lousy for visitors hahaha Thanks! I figured out how to get it to show and stop dropping the sidebars, and everything! I'm so proud of me P)

@ rusty: There is a plugin Sitemap Generator 2.7.1 http://www.arnebrachhold.de/2005/06/05/google-sitemaps-generator-v2-final which produces a Google sitemap. Very good also.

    Thanks again! Sherry

**EDITED TO ADD** I even customized this plugin, very easily. When I made the page for it to reside in, I started with a comment ("If you don't find what you need, please let us know") THEN I added, after a blank line the header Articles. Since I call my 'Pages' 'Article' and there is no header for them in the original coding, and they are the first up on the page. I also added a bullet at the beginning, so that it looks like the header belongs there!

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I've got a very simple ?silly question...

How do you add a link to the sitemap at the footer of the blog for example? Because when I add a page to a blog normally, it appears in the pages section on my R navigation bar, but can you get it in the footer only?

    Thanks

@Rusty: You would enter it in the PRESENTATION/NAVMENUS section. Enter the 1. title you want to appear 2. the slug name of the page it is appearing on (I used site_map).

[edit: Left my page just sitting there for a while and did not realize Sherry had answered your question before posting the below.]

@Rusty: You should be able to go to [Presentation > Nav Menus] and delete and add to whatever location you want the link in. Let us know if this does not work.

For the record, I used this plugin:

    http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/sitemap-generator-plugin-for-wordpress/

And to display in properly, I placed the following in the HTML source editor:

    <br />
    <!-- ddsitemapgen -->

So, try all the various combinations above to find the solution that works for you.

I originally had the above source between <div></ div> and it left a trailing "div>" displaying on my page. I have some custom text that displays at the bottom of every page and post, so the combination of the plugin and the custom text might have been doing this, not sure however.

But, it is working now, and a very fine plugin indeed.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your helpful somments!

I got the Dagon Design sitemap plug in and it looks great.

I understand that it does not product the xml site map though, so I assume will need to also use the xmal site map generator by www.arnebrachhold.de as well.

The only issue now is that I'm setting up my blog and I've got test posts and is not 100% ready yet. And when I'm posting, editing etc, the plug in pings google automatically.

Is there a way to turn this automatic google pinging off while I'm just setting up the blog?

    Thanks

    Rusty,

I personally am using the google site map generator that comes with sem pro, not sure however if it pings google at each post.

And true, the site map gen you mention, the one I am using also, does not generate the xml site map, but it does have a place to link to it on your site map.

I downloaded the xml map maker v2.7.1 and activated this, and deactivated the one that came with semiologic which was v2.9 (fork).

When I used v2.9 the options: sitemap page had only a few lines and I couldn;t set any settings at all (Strange)

When I used v2.7.1 it was fully functional, and I coulf turn the pinging of google on or off!

Anyone had this? Where the later version (and what does fork mean?) wasn't working?

    Rusty,

The version included in Pro is a modified version of 2.7.1, hence the fork designation. When Denis makes changes to an author's plugin, he submits them to the author. If the author chooses not to accept the plugin, Denis forks the plugin to his own version. With Google Sitemap Denis choose to eliminate all the different option settings. I'm not sure what else he changed.

You can still manually changed the options by editing the sitemap.php file. The option to turn off Google pinging is on line 337.

It doesn't. Among the changes I did to the initial plugin:

    • It works with WordPress MU (hence the disappear of many options)
    • It reschedules the ping to Google on each post publish/edit/delete to occur a bit later, rather than immediately -- this avoids to ping spam Google.

There is a 3.x version of Google Sitemap, by the way. But the terms of use forbid me to bundle it.

I am new to the site map. I am using this plug in with WP.

I have another plug in for ecommerce selling.

From what I can see through webmaster tools the site map is not picking up any product pages information. With the exception of a page Google is calling my Products Page.

I can only guess because each of these product pages and individual product on each page are not being considered as part of the WP blog site?

If any of this is making sense...... Is there a way to include the product pages within the WP ecommerce plug in to be indexed via the sitemap?
